VW Front Transmission Mount (1960 Only) – 111-301-265C

Ensure your 1960 restoration is technically accurate with this One-Year-Only Front Transmission Mount. Volkswagen implemented several specific drivetrain changes for the 1960 model year, and this front mount is a prime example. It is physically distinct from both the earlier 8mm stud mount and the later 10mm stud versions, featuring a specialized shape and bracket configuration designed to mate the 1960 transaxle nose cone to the chassis.

Because this part was only used for a single production year, it is often difficult to source and is frequently replaced with incorrect "close-enough" parts that lead to poor shift linkage alignment. Using the correct 111-301-265C mount preserves the factory geometry of your drivetrain, eliminating shifter "slop" and preventing the transmission from torqueing excessively under load.

Detailed Vehicle Compatibility

This mount is a specific fit for 1960 models (typically August 1959 through July 1960 production) continuously across these models:

VW Beetle & Ghia

1960

(Note: If your vehicle was manufactured in late 1959 but titled as a 1960, or if it has a replacement transmission from a different year, please verify your mounting bracket style before ordering.)

Installation & Maintenance Tips

Verify Your VIN: Since 1960 was a transition year, checking your chassis number is highly recommended. This mount is generally correct for chassis numbers 2,528,668 through 3,192,506.
Inspect the Nose Cone: When replacing this mount, inspect the nose cone seal (Part # 111-301-289). If the mount was failing, the extra movement often causes the nose cone seal to leak transmission fluid onto the new rubber, which will cause it to soften and fail prematurely.
Hand-Tighten First: Because of the specific angle of the 1960 mounting bracket, always start your mounting bolts by hand to avoid cross-threading.
Cleaning: To maximize the life of the rubber, keep the mount clean of oil and grease. If you have an active transmission leak, clean the mount regularly with a mild degreaser until the leak is repaired.
